AE Mission Statement

NMSU Alamogordo Adult Education holds registration for English as a Second Language (ESL)/ Citizenship classes and GED classes.

Registration is required before entering into the classes.  To register, visit the Adult Education office located at the Tays Special Events Center.  For more information, call (575) 439-3812.

NOTE: GED will change to computer-based testing starting January 2014. ALL CANDIDATES MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE ALL FIVE TESTS PRIOR TO DECEMBER 31, 2013. Any examinee who has not completed all tests by that date will lose their scores and will need to retest in all areas. Computer based testing fees will increase to $120.00. Until December 31, 2013 tests will continue to be a pencil-paper test and the cost will remain at $50.00 for the series.

ABE provides: Assessments, GED Preparation, Citizenship, ESL (English as a Second Language), High School Refresher, and Employment Skills.

Fall sessions will begin August 26.

Fall 2013 SCHEDULE for ABE/GED®

The Adult Education Program at NMSU Alamogordo is teaching GED® classes in Language Arts (English and Reading) and Math at the Mescalero Empowerment Center. The GAIN assessments and curriculum is used for preparing and teaching the students enrolled in GED® classes.

The registration*/ assessment period for Fall 2013 will take place Tuesday, September 4, 2013 at the scheduled time stated below.

September 4, 2013
Assessment begins at 9:00 am
Registration, Language Arts assessment,
Math assessment

Please ARRIVE PROMPTLY for the assessment, and plan to spend the ENTIRE 3 hours.
(1) Fill out registration forms and receive ABE Student Information Sheet
(2) One 45 minute Language Arts assessment
(3) Fifteen minute break
(4) One 45 minute Math assessment

GED Classes are being offered from September 9 to December 11. ALL levels meet together on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Class Schedule:
Language Arts: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Math: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The Adult Education Program has implemented a managed testing arrangement. That means that no testing will be allowed during the week of classes and students may not join a class once the session has started.

*Students will be charged a $10 annual registration fee to be paid during orientation. Proof of hardship will be required to waive fee.



Fridays 8 – 12 : Office will be closed.

Students who are interested in taking Adult Basic Education classes this Spring are encouraged to begin the intake and assessment process.
