About Us
Hello, and welcome to New Mexico State University Alamogordo (NMSU-A)! People make a college great, so whether you are a prospective student, current student, professor, staff member, graduate, community member, parent, neighbor, or visitor, your interest and enthusiasm are valued and appreciated.
Over 50 years ago, the college started by offering classes at the Alamogordo High School, but now we have a beautiful campus at the top of the hill that overlooks the town of Alamogordo and White Sands National Monument. We have grown from 278 students to over 6,000 students who are enrolled in a variety of credit and non-credit courses onsite, online and at Holloman Air Force Base.
Our faculty and staff create a dynamic environment that engages students in the process of learning. Our strong commitment to each student provides a personalized approach that is both academically challenging and personally supportive. The campus also hosts a variety of other services including access to up-to-date technology, an Academic Support Center that provides tutoring services, and a Library with access to a variety of print and digital materials.
The campus has a strong commitment to sustainability. We implemented a campus recycling program, and in June 2009 construction on the Allied Health Sciences Center was completed. The Center is the first facility in the New Mexico State University system built to LEED Certification standards—this fall, we will apply for LEED Gold Certification. In partnership with the City of Alamogordo, the first solar-powered crosswalk in the State of New Mexico was installed across N. Scenic Drive. We are in the process of replacing our 25-year old energy management system, and during June and July, the campus pilot-tested a 4-day, 10-hour work schedule.
I hope you will navigate through this site and learn about the many qualities that make NMSU-A so special. And no matter what your reason is for visiting, we are glad you came!
– Dr. Cheri Jimeno, President of NMSU Alamogordo
