Criterion Two. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct

The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and responsible.

NMSU-A operates with integrity in all aspects of the institution including academic, financial, personnel and human resources, support services, and auxiliary services through well established and enforced policies and procedures.

NMSU-A is committed to clearly and completely disseminating information through a variety of media, both paper and electronic. The NMSU-A website is a primary source of this information, providing electronic versions of most of the hard copy documents that are distributed to students and the public.

NMSU-A follows the policy found in the NMSU Policy Manual with respect to freedom of expression and academic freedom. NMSU-A ensures the integrity of research and scholarly practices of faculty, staff, and students through numerous forms of oversight and support. Support for student scholarly work and research can be found in the classroom, academic support centers, and policy.

Students are offered specific guidance on the ethical use of information resources in the classroom and through instruction at the library and other academic support service centers. Enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct in relation to academic misconduct is described in the NMSU-A Student Handbook in the section titled Academic Discipline Process.

2.A. The institution operates with integrity in its financial, academic, personnel, and auxiliary functions; it establishes and follows fair and ethical policies and processes for its governing board, administration, faculty, and staff.

2.B. The institution presents itself clearly and completely to its students and to the public with regard to its programs, requirements, faculty and staff, costs to students, control, and accreditation relationships.

2.C. The governing board of the institution is sufficiently autonomous to make decisions in the best interest of the institution and to assure its integrity.

2.D. The institution is committed to freedom of expression and the pursuit of truth in teaching and learning.

2.E. The institution’s mission demonstrates commitment to the public good.
