- Dual Credit Request Form (PDF, 296 KB)
Regular Degree Status Admission
Students who will soon be graduating from high school can apply for Regular Degree Status Admission.
Early Admit Program
Academically superior students who are currently enrolled in a state accredited high school may begin taking classes for college credit. Students who participate in this program continue their regular high school curriculum. The Early Admit Program is designed to enhance and supplement the high school curriculum, not duplicate or replace it; therefore, there may be limitations on class choices.
Requirements include meeting cumulative GPA requirements (3.0 for seniors; 3.5 for juniors, and 3.75 for sophomores), parental permission, high school transcripts, and high school verification of GPA. The Early Admit student must have a personal interview each semester with the Early Admit Advisor who will verify their admission status and approve courses. A $20 non-refundable admission fee will be charged at the time of first registration. Consult your high school couselor if you are interested in obtaining dual credit for Early Admit courses.
Early Admit students are admitted as nondegree status students. After high school graduation, students attending NMSU-A must apply for admission as degree seeking status students.
Concurrent Enrollment Program
Qualified high school students may begin taking courses at NMSU-A that will grant both high school and college credit. NMSU-A admission policy establishes that juniors and seniors with a 2.0 cumulative GPA may take vocational, technical, or applied courses. Qualified students, juniors with a 3.5 cumulative GPA and seniors with a 3.0 cumulative GPA, may take academic courses with sufficient placement test score. The selected courses may not replace high school courses, nor may students take developmental courses.
Participating students must have an interview with the Concurrent Enrollment advisor. Parental permission and the high school counselor’s signature are required for qualification. In all cases, the college advisor has the final authority on course selection.
Concurrent Enrollment students are admitted as nondegree status students. After high school graduation, students attending NMSU-A must apply for admission as degree seeking status students.
Foreign Students
A foreign student is any individual attending New Mexico State University while present in the United States on a non-immigrant student visa. Legal immigrants or refugees must present documentation of their status. For details, please see the website of the Foreign Student Admissions Office on the NMSU Las Cruces Campus.
The general policies of the university apply to foreign as well as domestic students. However, some special policies are necessitated by federal laws applicable only to foreign students. Some admission and tuition exceptions have been developed for foreign military and their family members stationed in New Mexico. Contact the Admissions Office for details.
Abitur Program
Family members of German military stationed at HAFB can complete the Associate of Arts and the Abitur requirements concurrently at NMSU-A. The Abitur program was jointly designed by NMSU-A and the German Air Force to bridge the differences between the German and American educational systems. It was initially approved in 1997 and was formally approved by the German Ministry of Education in October 2002. For further information regarding admissions requirements, contact the Campus Student Services Office.
For complete information on Foreign Student Admission Requirements, please see the NMSU Main Campus Catalog.
Transfer Students
We welcome applications from students who have attended other colleges and universities.
If you are seeking Regular Degree Status Admission, you will be asked to provide official transcripts from previous colleges & universities attended and may need to provide additional information. The admissions staff will contact you after receipt of your application and will let you know what you should provide. For further information please see the admissions section of the Course Catalog.
Evaluating Previous College Transcripts
Transcripts are evaluated, allowable credits determined, and class standing assigned only after the formal application for admission is accepted and the student is registered.
The process for evaluating transcripts is different for students who have already received a Bachelor’s Degree and wish to pursue another degree at NMSU at Alamogordo or NMSU. These students should contact Academic Advising to ask about the procedures for obtaining an evaluation. Students must be Degree-Seeking in order to receive a transcript evaluation.
For more complete information on the evaluation of transcripts please see the Course Catalog or contact the NMSU-A Academic Advising Department at (575) 439-3720.
Transcripts
The NMSU-A Admissions & Records does not directly provide official transcripts. However, you can order an official transcript several ways. First of all, you can go online and order directly from the Transcript Ordering Center. You will need to create a username and password, which you can use in the future. As of June 2007, the cost of a transcript obtained in this way is $5.25. You will need to use a credit or debit card.
You can also send a letter to the Las Cruces Office of the Registrar requesting a transcript - you will need to provide your complete name, social security number, date of birth, last date of attendance, the name and address to where you want the transcript sent (if different from your own address). You need to sign the request with your complete name and send a check payable to NMSU for $3.00 for each transcript you order. Send your letter to: Office of the Registrar, New Mexico State University, P.O. Box 30001 MSC 3AR, Las Cruces, NM 88003.
In order to request an unofficial transcript, you can call the Las Cruces Office (575-646-3412) to pick up an unofficial transcript in person (you will need to show proof of identification when picking up the transcript). Or, you can fax a request to the NMSU at Las Cruces Registrar’s Office (575-646-1579). This request MUST include your signature, social security number, and the return fax number. An unofficial transcript will be faxed to the number provided.
If you have additional questions, please call the NMSU Las Cruces Registrar’s Office at (575) 646-3411.
Readmission
Former students of New Mexico State University who have not attended an NMSU campus for one full year or longer are required to make formal application for readmission. Applications must be submitted to the Admissions and Records Office at least one day prior to registration. Readmission does not require an additional admission fee.
- Readmission to Degree (Regular) Status: A student who is seeking readmission and whose last NMSU admission status was degree seeking (regular), must complete a degree seeking readmission form. Additionally, if the student has attended other institutions during his/her absence from NMSU, the student must have official transcripts forwarded directly to the Admissions and Records Office by the Registrar of each institution and must be eligible to return to the college or university last attended. Academic admission status at the time of readmission will normally be determined by previous NMSU academic standing. However, academic performance at other institutions attended during the applicant’s absence from NMSU may be considered when determining the student’s academic admission status.
- Readmission to Non-Degree Status: A student who is seeking readmission and who previously attended NMSU-A under a nondegree admission status, must complete a nondegree readmission form. However, if the student wants to be readmitted under a degree (regular) status, the student must request a change-of-status at the time of readmission.
A grade report or unofficial transcript from previous institutions may be required at the time of readmission to show eligibility to return to colleges/universities previously attended.
For more information please contact the Admissions Office at (575) 439-3700 or via email at admissions@nmsua.nmsu.edu.
Changing Status
A nondegree student in good academic standing (2.0 NMSU GPA or above) may apply for change-of-status from nondegree to degree (regular) admission by completing a change-of-status application and meeting the requirements for degree (regular) admission status. Nondegree students may not apply more than 30 credits earned under the nondegree status to any NMSU undergraduate degree program.
All documents required for the change-of-status must be in the Admissions and Records Office by the dates posted in the current semester schedule. If all documentation is not received by that date, then the change-of-status will be reviewed for processing the next semester of the student’s enrollment.
Any transfer student who has less than a 2.0 cumulative grade point average from his/her previous college(s) and/or vocational schools must submit a letter of appeal to the Admissions Appeal Board for a change-of-status to degree seeking.
For more information please contact the Admissions Office at (575) 439-3700 or via email at admissions@nmsua.nmsu.edu.
