Continuing Academic Tuition Scholarship

Amount:

Tuition

Criteria:

Must be a continuing or re-admitted NMSU-A student with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and must have earned 12 or more NMSU credits (must not have more than 70 credits including transfer credits)
Must enroll in 6 or more NMSU-A credits
Must be a New Mexico resident
Must not be a recipient of any other New Mexico Scholarship

Second semester renewal policy:
Must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA
Must enroll in 6 or more NMSU-A credits

Re-application policy:
Students may re-apply for the following year provided that they have maintained a minimum 2.5 cumulative NMSU GPA and have not earned more than 70 credits

Fry Scholarship

Recent legislation amended Chapter 33 by adding a new eligibility criterion.  Children of an active duty member of Armed Forces who died in the line of duty on or after 9/11/2001 are now eligible for chapter 33. They are entitled to all chapter 33 benefits at the 100% rate, except for yellow ribbon.  Their delimiting date is their 33rd birthday.

They can apply beginning 5/1/2010. VA must begin issuing benefits payment for eligible students no later than 8/1/2010, retroactive to 8/1/2009.

The Guild of the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts

Criteria:

Have attended an accredited college or university for two semesters
Be enrolled full-time
Must have a C+ or better in the previous semester
Must have plans to move into the performing arts arena or teaching in one of the listed performing arts areas

John Joseph Moakley Charitable Foundation Scholarship

Amount:

$5000

Criteria:

This spring the John Joseph Moakley Charitable Foundation will award more then $110,000 in scholarships of up to $5,000 each to students pursuing undergraduate or graduate higher education or for vocational education. These scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis to applicants who demonstrate financial need, acceptance to a post high school program, and a desire to contribute to one’s community through public or charitable service as a vocation or as an avocation.

La Noche Women’s Club Scholarship

Must be attending NMSU-Alamogordo

Larry Albers Nursing Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be a nursing student enrolled at NMSU-Alamogordo
Attach a minimum of two letters of recommendation

Lewis Jordan Music Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in Music 160 or 161
Must maintain a 3.0 GPA while in the class

Nathan H. Kolb Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

Preference given to a student seeking a degree in the Electronics Technology degree program or Electrical Engineering degree program or in preparation for FAA certification as an aircraft mechanic
Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA

New Mexico Education Council, Inc. High School Scholarships

Amount:

Two $500 scholarships

Criteria:

Must be a graduating senior from a New Mexico High School
Must enroll at a New Mexico community college, junior college or university
Preference will be given to students from a NMEC member school

New Mexico Legislative Endowment Scholarship

Amount:

Tuition

Criteria:

Must be degree seeking at NMSU-A
Must be at least half time (6 credits or more)
Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or better
Must be a New Mexico resident
Must show financial need by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Must not be eligible to receive any other New Mexico State Scholarship
Preference given to a continuing or returning student

Deadline:  August 27, 2010 for 2010/2011 academic school year

New Mexico Scholars Program Scholarship

Amount:  Tuition and fees plus a book stipend

Criteria:

Must be a New Mexico high school graduate who has not yet turned 22
Must be a full-time student
Must have a combined family income of no more than $30,000 for one student in college or no more than $40,000 a year for more than one student in college
Must have received a composite ACT score of 25 or higher or SAT 1160 or top 5% of their high school graduating class
Must be a citizen of the United States or have a permanent visa
Must be a New Mexico resident
This scholarship is for an incoming high school student or a first time freshman under the age of 21 who has never attended any other college and meets the criteria above

Deadline:  March 15, 2010 for 2010/2011 (applications still being accepted)

Office of Navajo Nation Scholarship

To apply, students go to the Office of Navajo Nation Scholarship (ONNSFA) website (www.onnsfa.org) and click on the “I want to Apply Online” link then “Online Forms.”  There students will see the 3 types of applications:  Full-time, Part-time, and Teacher Education Program.  The rest of the documents such as the Letter of Admissions, Financial Needs Analysis (FNA), Certificate of Navajo Indian Blood (CIS), official transcripts from all previous institutions and/or a graduation degree checklist, and course registration can be sent by mail, faxed or emailed in a PDF form to ONNSFA.

Online MBA Academic Award

Amount:  $500

Criteria:

Must be enrolled in an MBA or undergraduate business related program
Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent U. S. resident
Must have a minimum of 30 semester hours to be completed (one more academic year)

Criteria:

Must be enrolled in a nursing or related health care administration degree program

Otero Federal Credit Union Scholarship

Amount:

$1000 ($500 for FA10 and $500 for SP11)

Criteria:

Must be a resident of New Mexico and a U.S. citizen
Must be degree seeking and admitted to the Alamogordo Branch of NMSU
Must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative college grade point average.  Please submit an unofficial college transcript of grades if transferring to NMSU-A from another college.
Preference will be given to a student living in Otero, Lincoln, Chaves or Eddy County
Must submit completed application, essay and a letter of recommendation to NMSU-A Financial Aid Office

Deadline:  July 30, 2010 for 2010/2011

P.E.O. Grant

Amount:  $500

Criteria:

Must be a female
Must be or have been a returning student who has had a break in college attendance
Must be degree seeking
Must be enrolled in no fewer than six semester hours and includes online classes
Must be able to address financial needs
Must have completed 12 hours of college credit

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Scholarships for Community College Students

USA TODAY All-USA Academic Team, the Coca-Cola All-State Academic Team and the New Century Scholars Program annually award approximately $5000,000 in scholarships to more than 350 students.

Guistwhite Scholarships of $5,000 are awarded annually to 20 students for transfer to senior colleges.

Hites Scholarships of $7,500 are awarded annually to five students for transfer to senior colleges.

Transfer Tuition Scholarship

Amount: Tuition and fees for a new entering transfer student

Criteria:

Students transferring from a New Mexico branch, community, or junior college with between 30 to 90 total credits attempted at all institutions and a minimum GPA of 3.5
Must be a New Mexico resident

Renewable: 3.5 cumulative NMSU GPA and 12 credit hours earned each semester.  Scholarship award is for a maximum of four semesters.  For top consideration, a scholarship application is required.

This scholarship is not a part of the general scholarship application.

Vietnam Veterans Scholarship

Amount: Tuition, required fees, and books not to exceed an amount equal to the highest resident tuition charged by a state institution

Criteria:

Must have Honorable Discharge
Must have established residency in New Mexico for a minimum of ten years
Must have been awarded the Vietnam campaign, or Vietnam Service Medal
Must plan to attend a state supported school, i.e. state universities, community colleges, etc.

Qualifications for children of deceased veterans scholarship:

  1. Veteran of the Armed Forces must have been a resident of New Mexico at the original time of entry into the United States Armed Forces.
    a. Must have been in during a period of armed conflict
    b. Must have been killed in action or as a result of such action
  2. National Guard Members-Must have been killed while on active duty
  3. State Police Officers-Must have been killed while on active duty
  4. Child must be between the ages of 16 and 26
  5. Child must be enrolled in a state supported school
