In Astronomy 105 and 110, we will learn about the observations, theories, and methods of modern astronomy. Topics covered will include planets, stars and stellar systems, black holes and neutron stars, supernovas and gaseous nebulae, galaxies and quasars, and cosmology. Emphasis will be on physical principles involving gravity, light, and optics. Some basic math up to trigonometry will be required.
