This is a quick course on the history and culture of the Chiricahua Apaches, often referred to as “Geronimo’s people,” The class will focus on four target areas in the experiences of the Chiricahua Apaches: cultural transition, cultural dispossession, cultural oppression, and cultural recovery. Specific focuses include traditional spirituality, warfare, deportation, adaptation, assimilation, relocation to New Mexico, and new theories on their historical trauma. Two optional books are recommended. (4 sessions)
