The rich history of gold prospecting in New Mexico brings up visions of gunslingers and bandits.  Today, you can learn old techniques using more modern equipment, with none of the danger!

The New Mexico Gold Prospectors invite you to a lecture designed to teach you about drywashing in the desert and dredging techniques in streams.  You will also learn a bit of the history of gold mining in New Mexico and how to locate gold claims and gold bearing areas in New Mexico.  Then, join the Prospectors for a Saturday field trip where you will practice the techniques, and search for gold.  (2 sessions)

Supplies will be discussed in class the first day.  For the field trip, bring plenty of water and a lunch.  Students are responsible for your own transportation as you caravan to the location.

Supply fee: $12 for gold panning kit.
