CDL Class A Truck Driving Training

Learn both the technical and the operational aspects of driving a semi-truck at our convenient NMSU Alamogordo campus. Brought to our campus by Artesia Training Academy, the curriculum covers the information needed to pass the written exam for your CDL Class A license. The first phase provides 40 hours of skills training, where you will learn to maintain driver logs, read maps, plan trips, and conduct a pre-trip safety inspection for your vehicle. The second portion of this hands-on training program puts you behind the wheel of a full-sized 18 wheeler where you learn shifting techniques, turning maneuvers, and how to safely back up the vehicle. The third phase is 80 hours of road instruction, teaching you to safely operate the tractor-trailer combination in traffic, defensive driving, and more
This course meets from 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday each day for 5 weeks and is designed to provide a mixture of classroom and behind-the-wheel training. Complete your training with the skills, knowledge, and experience that major transportation companies are looking for from their rookie drivers. (5 weeks)
Prepare to become a professional commercial truck driver and gain the basic skills to qualify for a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). In-class curriculum covers the information for the written exam (80 hours). Skills training includes pre-trip safety inspection, turning maneuvers, safe back-up and safe operation of a tractor-trailer in traffic (120 hours).
