Pharmacy Technician Program

Classes begin Spring 2015!

The Pharmacy Technician certification course is offered by the Community Education Department of NMSU Alamogordo in partnership with National Collegiate Partners.  The program offers students both theoretical and practical training through hands-on experience, preparing students for entry-level positions in the retail and institutional pharmacy setting. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to perform all the duties required in any pharmacy practice setting and also be prepared to take the certification exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

Days & Time: Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm; Saturday mornings 9am-12pm.
Cost: $4,495  Includes all materials and textbooks.
(The exam is not included in certification fee).

Students who register early will receive a $200 discount!

Location: Class will be held at the NMSU Alamogordo campus, located at 2400 North Scenic Drive in Alamogordo, at the Learning Technology Center (LTC).

Internship: Once 84 hours of classroom study have been completed, students are required to complete a 120-hour internship in order to graduate from the program.


The course offering is considered “selective admissions,” which means that NCP student counselors and University staff will grant admission based on the application and interview. Our commitment is to keep a low teacher-student ration, therefore, seating is limited.
Prerequisites for this course include:

  • A high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • No criminal offense, misdemeanor or felony, related to drugs or alcohol
  • Commitment to the rigorous course schedule, which includes approximately 12 hours of study time and work outside of class per week
  • Basic computer and typing skills of 25-30 WPM
  • Basic algebra skills

This non-credit course does not qualify for Pell Grants or financial aid normally available for academic classes. However, some types of financial assistance are available.
