Increase your cartographic literacy using modern and historic New Mexico maps. Join Pete Eidenbach in this one day map reading workshop! The class, based on Pete’s recent book: An Atlas of Historic New Mexico Maps (UNM Press 2012) will introduce you to modern and historic methods of cartography, guide you to the primary online sources of modern and historic maps, and expose you to some of the relevant literature in historic cartography.

Early sunrises and evening sunsets at the White Sands provide gorgeous backdrops for your portraits. Now learn techniques for making the best use of the natural light in your photographs. Join photographer/instructor Steve Christman for indoor lectures as well as outdoor field lectures and portrait photography sessions. Limit of 15 participants. Cost is $200 per person for this three-day workshop.

After sunset, the everyday world is magically transformed. This summer join photographer/instructor Steve Christman for nighttime photography at the White Sands. Low light levels make night photography a challenging subject, but here you will create amazing photographs using artificial and natural star light during this new moon weekend. Indoor lectures as well as outdoor field lectures will include sunset and night time photography sessions. Limit of 15 participants. Cost is $200 per person for two spectacular nights of photography and afternoon indoor instruction.

You will have an unrivaled opportunity to see, photograph, and experience the visual excitement that is White Sands National Monument. Indoor lectures as well as outdoor field instruction will include early sunrise and evening sunset photography sessions. Limit of 15 participants. Cost is $200 per person for this three-day workshop.

Take a day with Jeff Bacon to study the environment which has challenged and changed plants in the White Sands. Learn about the ingenious unique mechanisms that plants of this region have evolved to survive in the harsh gypsum desert known as White Sands National Monument. The indoor lecture will prepare you for the field seminar where you will observe the environment and the plants. Activity Level: Easy. Hikes of less than 2 miles with some elevation gain. Some off-trail hiking is possible. Cost is $30 per person for this one day seminar.

Dan Stouffer is an award winning watercolorist of the White Sands. Learn techniques for capturing the dune shapes, shadows and vegetation during indoor demonstrations and workshop style instruction. Evening sunsets outdoor lectures, for observation and photography, will inspire your work. Stouffer will present three days of indoor painting workshops and demonstrations. Outdoor lectures will include evening sunset sessions. Limit of 10 participants. Cost is $200 per person for this three-day workshop.
