Take a day to study the environment which has challenged and changed plants that have evolved in the White Sands. Learn about the ingenious mechanisms that unique plants of this region have evolved to survive in the harsh gypsum desert known as White Sands National Monument. Indoor lecture will prepare you for the field seminar where you will observe the environment and the plants. Activity Level: Easy. Hikes of less than 2 miles with some elevation gain. Some off-trail hiking is possible.
