STUDENT TEMPORARY SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

If you or someone you know is interested in Federal Student Temporary Employment for the summer, White Sands Missile Range will be accepting applications for the following positions:

Clerk, GS-0303-02, 03, 04 Salary Range $22,851 – $27,990 per annum
Engineering Aid GS-0802-02, 03, 04 Salary Range $22,851 – $27,990 per annum
Laborer WG-3502-02, 03, 04 Salary Range $9.50 – $12.52 per hour

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM: The Student Educational Employment Program provides Federal employment opportunities to students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school. The STEP provides maximum flexibility to both students and managers because the nature of the work does not have to be related to the student’s academic or career goals.

DUTY LOCATION: White Sands Missile Range, N.M. Located 30 miles east of Las Cruces, New Mexico and 45 miles north of El Paso, Texas.

WHO MAY APPLY: US CITIZENS who are 16 years old and older and at least part-time students

STEP REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc) and attending at least half-time in a high school, technical/vocational school, or college or university.

QUALIFICATIONS:

CLERK:
GS-02: Three months of general experience, or a high school graduate or equivalent, or a combination of experience and education.
GS-03: Six months of general experience or high school graduate plus 1 year of higher education, or a combination of experience and education.
GS-04: One year of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade, or 2 years of higher education above High School or a combination of experience and education.

ENGINEERING AID:
GS-02: Three months general experience, or a high school graduate or equivalent, or a combination of experience and education
GS-03: Successfully completed one year of post secondary study to include at least 6 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
GS-04: Successfully completed two years of post secondary study to include at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 (or equivalent). At least 3 of the 12 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization.

LABORER:
Ability to do the work of Laborer without more than normal supervision; work practices include keeping things neat, clean and in order. Ability to interpret instructions and specification (other than blueprints); ablility to use and maintain tools and equipment. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching and reaching. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and kneeling for extended periods in uncomfortable positions. Worker may lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds and, occasionally heavier items with assistance.

  • Management may select at any of the grade levels announced.
  • Multiple positions will be filled from this announcement.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Male applicants born after 12/31/59 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Personnel Security investigation required.
  • A medical examination maybe required.
