April 7, 2009

Ronnie Price (middle) Wins the James C. Nutt Scholarship
In 1980, Mr. James C. Nutt founded the Engineering Technology (ET) Program at New Mexico State University at Alamogordo and served many years as its Program Coordinator. The ET Program is the longest running program of its type in the State of New Mexico and has provided the engineering and technology industry with highly-regarded graduates since its first graduating class in 1982. For over 25 years, Mr. Nutt was an exemplary teacher and mentor for our community college students. In 2003, the friends, students and colleagues of Mr. Nutt established a scholarship fund in acknowledgement of Mr. Nutt’s exceptional achievements, commitment to students, and unparalleled dedication to teaching. The James C. Nutt Scholarship is given each year to an ET Program student and comes with a $500 award and recognition among the ET Program.

This academic year, 2008/2009, Ronnie Price was chosen as the recipient of this prestigious honor. Ronnie is a student in the ET Program and graduates this year with his Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronics Technology. He is a member of the Crimson Scholar Program and Phi Theta Kappa. Ronnie is a disabled Army veteran and believes that his chosen electronic technology profession will enable him to fulfill his desire to help others and be of service to society.

When notified of being selected for this award, Ronnie had the following statements:

“I chose the NMSU-A Engineering Technology Program because it offers the educational opportunities required to become a highly-skilled and qualified electronic technician. I received lots of hands-on training and a strong foundation in critical thinking skills. During my progress through the ET Program, I have had a large number of mentors and instructors who are wonderful and who have had a remarkable influence on my life. I would, one day, like to give back what they have given to me by becoming an instructor of technology. Winning the James C. Nutt Scholarship is a tremendous honor to me. I am a non-traditional college student in every sense and winning the prestigious James C. Nutt Scholarship is one of my greatest academic and personal accomplishments.”

One of Ronnie’s electronic instructors (Richard Hoffman) was thrilled with the selection of Ronnie and added these comments of praise:

“When I picture Ronnie Price, I see a person of humble yet self-assured character. Throughout the two year electronics curriculum, he consistently produced optimal results, as shown by his successful completion of the final project in our Digital Electronics course. The ET Program uses his digital clock project as an interactive model at educational and recruiting fairs of middle and high school students. Ronnie frequently contributed new ideas and asked insightful questions about complex electronics concepts and circuitry. Through just plain hard work and determination, Ronnie made the most of his opportunities at NMSU-Alamogordo. As the recipient of the James Nutt Scholarship Award, Ronnie is being recognized for his educational and personal achievements which are the results of his impeccable integrity, respect for others, and exceptional commitment to learning.”
