Dr. Debra Teachman Completes the 2011 HERS Denver Summer Institute
Denver, CO (August 10, 2011) – Dr. Debra Teachman, Vice President for Academic Affairs at New Mexico State University Alamogordo, recently graduated from the HERS Denver Summer Institute, held July 24-August 7 at the University of Denver. Offering HERS Institutes annually since 1976, Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) is the premier residential professional development program dedicated to advancing women leaders in higher education administration.
The seventy-two participants selected for this year’s Denver Summer Institute represented 62 institutions from 26 states across the U.S and 6 other countries. They included a president, vice presidents, associate vice presidents, as well as faculty, deans, directors and chairs of academic and administrative departments. The broad range of experiences across disciplines, sectors and positions offered a unique environment to evaluate critical issues confronting higher education today.
Responding to the current environment for higher education globally, the Summer Institute had a special focus this year on “Women Leaders Today: Accepting the Challenge of Re-inventing Higher Education.” Over 33 senior officers from colleges and universities, national organizations, and accrediting associations – many HERS alumnae or board members – served as faculty.
Debra Teachman has been at NMSU-A since Fall 1998, serving as Vice President of Academic Affairs since August, 2003. She was previously Assistant Professor of English Literature and Composition at Marshall University in Huntington WV.
Her participation in the HERS Denver Summer Institution was sponsored by New Mexico State University Alamogordo.
