SVAA Collects Over $400 During Fundraising Barbeque

admin | March 26, 2012

The NMSU-A chapter of the Student Veterans Association of America (SVAA) held its fundraising barbeque Tuesday, March 13, on the campus patio. According to chapter President, Doug Sabo, the fundraiser was a huge success, collecting over $400 in donations. Monies collected from this fundraising activity go to support the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Fort Bliss.

SVAA membership is open to veterans, active duty, and their families with the motto of “still serving”. This group provides support to the same, their community, and fellow students and works diligently to assist with specific needs, as well as provide support with daily issues.

Last semester, the SVAA barbeque, along with other donations, totaled $500. The money was presented to the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Fort Bliss on December 16th at the annual Christmas party. This donation made it possible for several WWB soldiers to go home for Christmas.

At the recent fundraising, Congressman Pearce, his Aid, Joe Martinez, and Representative Herrell accepted SVAA President Sabo’s invitation to visit during the event.
