Meet our new librarian.

NMSU-A Web Developer | July 6, 2012

Dr. Sharon Jenkins began as the new librarian for NMSU-A’s David Townsend Library on Monday, June 25th. She earned her M.A. in Library and Informational Sciences from the University of Missouri, Columbia and her Ph.D. in Information Sciences from the University of North Texas. She began her career as a medical librarian and Learning Resources Coordinator for the Western Arizona Area Health Education Center at Bullhead City, Arizona.

“Having worked in New Mexico for many years, I knew of NMSU-A and had worked with two of your previous directors. They both had really good things to say about the campus, so your reputation was a draw. I also wanted to work in a familiar environment but one in which there was definitely a difference. This is a community college setting but also one with ties to a full university opportunity.”

“There has been a great job done in the past in removing outdated material that really wasn’t supporting the curriculum. One of the main things I’d like to do is start to build a collection in a systematic manner that is current and useful for our patron population. Keeping careful record of how we’re building the collection will aid future library staff to continue a logical pattern of growth and improvement.”

    Hi Dr. Jenkins,
Welcome to NMSU-A, and I look forward to meeting you. I have kept a alternative energy e – resource on your library for several years, relating to NMSU-A’s renewable energy program, and for the NMSEA (New Mexico Solar Energy Assn – Alamogordo Chapter) which I am an officer in. The listing is still at http://nmsua.edu/library/alternative-energy/

Hopefully I can get it all tidied up, removing the unusable URLs, and perhaps add a few new ones. Maybe you can help me get it up dated, using one of your official helpers at the library this fall …

Good Luck….stay off the committees as long as you can….
    Sincerely,
    Ron Offley, Professer Emeritus (Chemistry)

Oh yes, it’s too late to stay off committtees – I’ve got four meetings this week!
