1st Impressions Event Assists Students.
The first two days of our fall semester classes saw a return of an effort begun several years ago, but this time it returned on a much larger scale. Four information booths were set up across campus on both days and were manned from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm by approximately 30 staff, volunteering for one or more 2-hour shifts both days. The purpose of the event was to welcome students (new and returning) and provide information, directions to classrooms, etc.
Spearheading the effort was Dr. Juan García, new VP of Student Success. “The booths are meant to help welcome students, ease stress, and promote integration into the community. Retention increases when a student feels part of the campus, and this is what we are trying to do.”
