Pink Week Awareness

NMSU-A Web Developer | October 5, 2012

Monday, October 15th through Thursday, October 18th is “Pink Week.” During “Pink Week” we celebrate those who have survived breast cancer, support those who are currently fighting the disease, and remember those who have lost the battle. NMSU-A joins the “Pink Week” campaign because we believe that education is imperative for prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer. Early diagnosis can mean the difference between surviving and becoming a statistic.

During “Pink Week” all NMSU-A students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to wear pink every day to show their support. To highlight the week, NMSU-A will have “Pink on the Patio” Thursday, October 18th from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. There will be an informational area with free literature about prevention and detection of breast cancer. There will also be medical staff present and live coverage by KUPR Radio Station. Alamogordolive.net will join us, also. There will be giveaways for those who are “Pink Proud” and tough enough to wear pink! (This means you guys, too! Breast cancer shows no gender preference!)

We at NMSU-A invite you to support this important cause with us and recognize those who have been touched with this disease. The goal is to eradicate this cancer; we can start with education.

“Lids for Life Challenge” is a challenge extended to ALL campus departments and student organizations.  Our goal is to collect as many “clean” Yoplait yogurt PINK lids to donate them to Alamogordo Home Care & Hospice. The challenge is a contest to see who can raise the most lids and have the best decorated box for the lid collection. Winners of the Best Box and Most Lids will be recognized during “Pink on the Patio” (18th) and awarded a special prize.

We hope that you participate during the week by showing your passion for pink and wear pink pride and participate in Pink on the Patio.

Event is coordinated by Hope Patterson and Brenda Purvis with help from SMS Club.

We have been working very hard to promote this. We will be having various guests such as Bobb Flotte from KUPR, Alamogordo Daily News, Alamogordo Hospice, a representative from GRMC cancer dept, and an exray rep from Albuquerque.

The challenge to all student organizations and NMSU-A Departments is to raise as much yoplait yogurt lids to be able to give to Alamogordo Hospice. The contest is to collect the most lids and to have the best collection container. There will be a prize of a pizza party for the winning group in each of the 2 challenges.
I have only seen one collection container for the lids on campus, and it is EMPTY.

So please, students, staff and faculty, donate your lids and make collection containers. We don’t want to be embarrassed in our support of donating the lids to the Alamogordo Hospice. We have until Thursday at noon for Pink on the Patio.

If you don’t like yogurt, bring a check or cash to donate tomorrow to the Alamogordo Hospice!!

    Thanks!
