NMSU-A Advisor selected as one of the 2013 Women of Merit.
Melinda Fowler is recognized by the Alamogordo Daily News as one of the 2013 Women of Merit. Melinda began working as an Academic Advisor at NMSU-A in June of 2011 and since has established herself well with the students who come to her for assistance. She is the student advisor for the disabled veterans and students on campus and is the advisor for the Student Veterans of America-Alamogordo. Mendy, as she is affectionately known, led the charge to have the veteran’s lounge built in the Student Union Building which is designed around Traumatic Brain Injury & P.T.S.D. She is also actively involved with the “Take Back the Night” program and helps female students transition into C.O.P.E. if necessary.
Now in its 14th year, the Women of Merit ceremony celebrates ten women of Otero County who make a difference with their volunteer endeavors, at work, at home, at church, and the community. Women are nominated by friends or family, and a secret panel of judges selects ten women who stand out.
This year’s ceremony will be Saturday, March 9th at the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts. Hors d’ oeuvres will be served beginning at 5:00 pm with the ceremony beginning promptly at 5:30. Tickets are $5 for open seating and available at the Alamogordo Daily News office located at 518 24th Street during regular business hours.
