March from 8-9 (2.4 miles) to support “Taking Back the Night” for all victims of sexual and domestic violence. Student organizations, children, and well-behaved pets all welcome.

Free t-shirts with a design by an Academy del Sol student on the front and sponsor names on the back. Event sponsored by NMSU-A and SANE, SART, SNMWA, and COPE. Come join us for this annual event to bring about awareness in Otero County!

Maybe this event could actually do what it’s supposed to and march through some of the nastier parts of town rather than it’s usual “hey look we’re taking back this largely uninhabited stretch of uptown road”. Oh, and you could actually take back the night, instead of the evening.

  3. K Cooper says:

Take Back the Night is in regards of direct action against rape and other forms of sexual abuse. This being said, it isn’t intended to just focus on the lower income parts of town. Rape and other forms of sexual abuse can happen to all parts of town, different economical backgrounds, and even on the “upscale” side of town. Take Back the Night is to spread the word of what is happening and saying that the population is not going to let it keep happening and be swept under the rugs. It is to inform those who have (or will be) subjected to these horrible acts forced upon them that there are organizations and resources available to them. It is to help those that have been victimized know that they aren’t alone, that what has happened to them is not okay and there is help. Help available not only for the physical pain but for the emotional pain and their mental health as well.
