This year’s Independence Day parade will be Thursday, July 4, 2013. The parade entries/participants will once again line up along N. Oregon Ave. by 9:45 a.m. At this time, NMSU-A does not have its participant number, so we don’t know exactly where along N. Oregon we will be. Just look for the good-looking folks with the car that is identified as NMSU Alamogordo! The parade begins promptly at 10 a.m. and will proceed down 10th Street to New York Ave. We will have plenty of candy to hand out to the crowds.
We hope you can join us this year! Uncle Sam will be with us again!
Quality Matters™ (QM) is a critical component to quality assurance for online education. It provides a faculty-driven process around student learning that is collaborative, collegial, continuous, and centered. It provides the tools and training for quality assurance of online courses (www.qualitymatters.org).
NMSU Alamogordo understands the need for more consistency in course quality and delivery and has committed human and financial resources for the solid implementation of Quality Matters (QM) for its online course delivery and online student support services.
Online course offerings at NMSU-A increased dramatically after spring 2007, and in order to ensure academic integrity, as well as consistency of presentation and expectations, a full-time faculty member was reassigned to oversee the quality of all online courses. This new position, Director of Online Quality Assurance, serves as the plan manager for the Quality Matters Program, directing the internal review process, training faculty on QM standards, and preparing and teaching the mandatory pedagogical training for online faculty.
All online courses originating from NMSU-A will now go through an internal peer review based on QM standards. Within 3 years (summer 2016), all online course offered at NMSU-A will have undergone and passed this internal review process.
For more information about NMSU-A’s implementation of Quality Matters and details about the QM process itself, check for the second article about QM coming soon to our website.
Meet Sherrell Wheeler who will serve as the Director of Online Quality Assurance. Sherrell has extensive experience developing online curriculum and teaching online courses. She has completed two Quality Matters workshops: Applying the Quality Matters Rubric and the Peer Reviewer Course. She is currently enrolled in the Online Facilitator Certification course. Sherrell is a Quality Matters Certified Peer Reviewer and is taking the necessary steps to become a Certified Facilitator and Master Reviewer. In her new role, Sherrell will provide training for NMSU-A faculty in online pedagogy, facilitate Quality Matters workshops, lead the Online Quality Assurance team, and work to ensure quality in all online courses.
