NMSU-A’s Engineering Instructor, Sarah Williamson’s Engineering 100 students will be building Rube Goldberg machines for their final exam project. You may be asking “What’s a Rube Goldberg machine?” Well, we’ve all seen them – those complicated machines that make the simplest task seem like rocket science. They’re named after Reuben Garrett Lucius “Rube” Goldberg, an engineer known more for his political satire cartoons. Goldberg showed us that industry and corporations can’t replace common sense.
Volunteers from Holloman Air Force Base will be judging the competition on:
5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Come out and support our NMSU-A future engineers: engineers with common sense.
Monday, November 11th, NMSU Alamogordo celebrated Veterans Day by recognizing NMSU-A faculty and staff who served in the United States Armed Forces. Master of Ceremonies was Mr. Paul “Chez” Sanchez, Senior Ride Captain of the Southeast New Mexico Patriot Guard Riders and retired MSgt. of the United States Air Force. The Holloman AFB Steel Talons Honor Guard presented the colors to open the ceremony.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Sanchez stressed the value and skills veterans bring to the workplace and that NMSU-A was fortunate to have its veteran employees. He also pointed out the differences between the holidays that honor veterans and that November 11th honors veterans still living.
Twenty-six NMSU-A employees self-identified as having served in one of the military branches and were recognized with Certificates of Appreciation from NMSU-A. Photos of those veterans attending can be viewed on NMSU-A’s Flickr at the bottom left of this page. Those present to receive their certificate were: Mike Padilla, Ron Frankinburger, Albert Borunda, Carlos Sanchez, Robert Androeli, Denise King, Jary Rupe, Chris Sisneros, Dr, Juan García, Rosa Rico-Fernandez, Dr. Karen Reid, Greg Hillis, David Sheehan, and accepting for Gary Bond was his wife Colleen, who is also a veteran.
