The Bistro Closes for Spring Break

Power and Water Outage Scheduled
March 10, 2010
On March 22 beginning at 7:30 AM, the power at the Tays Special Events Center, including the ABE and Music Room, will be turned off for approximately 10 hours to remove and replace existing feeders.
In addition, the water will be turned off to make some modifications on the water system the same day.

Temporary Changes in Admissions and Records Office

Due to a critical staffing shortage, the hours of availability at the front counter and for answering phone calls is from 9:00 AM until 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday. There will be no counter assistance on Fridays. This limited availability will be temporary.

Writers’ Group Organizational Meeting

The Mary Virginia Brown Prose Writers’ Group will hold an organizational meeting. The group is not intended to teach writing, but rather to support and critique the work of those who are currently writing fiction and non-fiction (not poetry) for publication.

Jazz Band Concert March 19

The NMSU-A Jazz Band will be performing music in tribute to those who have served or are currently serving our country in the Armed Forces. Some selections include Swing tunes from the WWII era such as “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, and current charts written for the military such as Gordon Goodwin’s “A Few Good Men”.
Alamogordo High School Jazz Band 2 will join us and will open the night’s concert with several selections they have been preparing for competition.

Admission: $3 per person or $10 per family
All proceeds go to the Lewis Jordan Scholarship Fund.
Auditions for TICKLE ACADEMY
February 25, 2010
Auditions for NMSU-A Theatre on the Hill’s TICKLE ACADEMY, a new family play by Connie Breding, will be held on Saturday, March 6 at 1 pm and Sunday, March 7 at 2 pm at the Rohovec Fine Arts Center on the NMSU-A campus.
Set in a school run by headmaster Iggy Tickle, the play has roles for both adults and children. Roles for adults include instructors Mrs. Snooter, Miss Witherbottom, Mr. Scuttle, Mrs. McCorker, and the absent-minded janitor, Mr. Kleaner. Young performers will play the students who attend Tickle Academy.
Production dates for the play are April 16, 17, 23, 24 & 25. Special matinees for area school children will be scheduled April 19-23.
Children must be at least eight years old to audition. For more information about auditions, call 575-442-1340.
1st Annual Career Tech Expo

NMSU-A students, Alamogordo High School students, and community members are invited to attend the First Annual Career Tech Expo.

- Where: Alamogordo High School Commons Area (use front entrance)
Sixty exhibitors will be on hand to talk to attendees about what skills and educational preparation are needed to succeed in their fields. This event is a great opportunity for NMSU-A and Alamogordo Public Schools to showcase their educational programs and show how they connect with career pathways.

“Tears In the Darkness” Bataan Death March In Historical Context

A special invitation is offered to NMSUA students, faculty and staff! Be part of an upcoming class led by former NMSU-A history professor and CEO Dr. David Townsend and local historian Clif McDonald. If you have ever heard a presentation by these two men, you know you are in for a treat, even though the subject is a sad one. This non-credit class centers around Tears in the Darkness, a major new book about World War II and the first major land battle: the brutal fight for the Philippine peninsula of Bataan.
The cost of the class for NMSUA students, faculty and staff is just $20 (reduced from the standard price of $30). In addition, there are four copies of the book available at the Townsend Library ready for check-out. Read the book early, and prepare now to participate. To register, call 439-3842.

Performance of “The Vagina Monologues”

V-Day 2010 will be celebrated at NMSU-Alamogordo with two performances of Eve Ensler’s play, “The Vagina Monologues.”

- Location: Rohovec Fine Arts Center on the NMSU-A campus
- Tickets: $5 — Advance tickets can be purchased at The Blue Stone on White Sands Blvd. and the COPE office. There will also be tickets available at the theatre box office the dates of the performances.
