Party for Clint Burleson
Posted November 20, 2008 by admin
There will be a retirement party for Clint Burleson to be held at Cathy Aguilar-Morgan’s house at 2265 Cherry Hills Ct. on Saturday, November 22nd from 1:00 - 5:00 PM. For details, please contact Michelle Nelson at 439-3761.
Clint Burleson, Professor of Computer Science, is retiring as a full-time NMSU-A faculty at the end of Fall Semester 2008. Thankfully, however, he intends to continue teaching part-time.
Clint has been the foundation of the Computer Science area at NMSU-A for 30 years. He has been the Area Coordinator for Computer Science for most of those years, and he stepped up to the challenge of Acting Division Head for Math, Science, Business, and Technology during the 2006-2007 academic year. Clint was one of the first NMSU-A faculty to begin teaching online classes, and he was very instrumental in encouraging more online offerings, which led to the high enrollments at NMSU-A in the last couple years. He has been very involved with curriculum, but throughout his years at NMSU-A he has probably served on every committee in some capacity.
While busy with his duties at NMSU-A, Clint still found some time to pursue his passions: running marathons, working on his house, spending time at his cabin. Although NMSU-A will miss Clint greatly, we know that now he will have more time for his adventures.
Thank you, Clint, for all you have done to make NMSU-A successful. We wish you the best!

Smoke-Free Campus?
Posted November 6, 2008 by admin
NMSU Alamogordo is considering options regarding moving toward a smoke-free (no smoking) campus. Possibilities include:
- Going completely smoke-free
- Designating a few “smoking areas” around campus
- Leaving things the way they are (no smoking in and within 25 feet of campus building entrances)
Campus administrators are currently seeking input concerning these possibilities. If you have an opinion, please make a comment below! Thanks.

Lowery H. Davis, former dean of the New Mexico State University College of Human and Community Services, now the College of Health and Social Services, passed away in Las Cruces October 4th at the age of 87. According to many NMSU Alamogordo Faculty & Staff, Lowery was a consistent and effective supporter of NMSU-A during his tenure. For a NMSU Communications Release on Dean Davis, please see: NMSU remembers first dean of College of Human and Community Services.

Dr. David Townsend presented a eulogy for Lowery Davis on October 9th. Here it is in full:
EULOGY for LOWERY DAVIS
Delivered by David Townsend
October 9, 2008
Several years ago, Lowery called me in Alamogordo and, serious, as only Lowery could be, asked if I would do a eulogy at his funeral. Equally seriously, I told him I had a very crowded calendar and what date did he have in mind? Lowery, very serious by this time, told me I would never amount to anything because I could not get serious. I agreed to do the eulogy because there is no graceful way to decline. Besides, I loved Lowery Davis and was honored by the request, hoping this day would never come, but it has.
