CCSSE Worksop at Tays

February 10, 2010

On Friday, March 12, staff members from the Center for Community College Student Engagement will be at NMSU Alamogordo to present a workshop on survey results from 2009. In spring 2009 the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) was administered to students and a companion survey was completed by faculty. This is a national survey that emphasizes ways to improve student retention and success. The workshop will include explanations of the resulting “benchmark” scores for NMSU-A in comparison to national averages as well as significant individual question responses from both students and faculty.

More information about the organization and the survey can be found on the CCSSE website at http://www.ccsse.org . Survey results for NMSU Alamogordo can be accessed by clicking on the “Survey Results” tab and then the “College Profiles” tab at the top of the webpage.

The workshop will take place at Tays Special Events Center on Friday, March 12. Registration begins at 8am (refreshments will be available) and the workshop will be from 8:30 to 11:30. All faculty and staff are invited. In addition to NMSU Alamogordo’s survey results, the CCCSE staff will discuss how results can be used to:

  • Enhance student experiences in and out of the classroom
  • Advance critical thinking
  • Help prepare for accreditation visits
  • Guide faculty efforts to increase students’ classroom success
  • Identify ways to improve services to students
  • Improve faculty and staff professional development efforts

Staff Thanksgiving Potluck

November 18, 2009

The Library is hosting a Thanksgiving Potluck next Tuesday, November 24th, beginning at noon. As the campus can get rather quiet during Thanksgiving week, we thought we’d put on an event for those staff remaining on campus!

As we would like this to be a potluck we welcome your bringing a dish to share, although it isn’t absolutely necessary as library staff will be “potlucking” the basics (turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, etc.).

If you think you can come, please let us know in advance by emailing Dan Kammer, calling 439-3650, or dropping by to tell us. We hope to see you there!

Community Campus Roundup

September 21, 2009

New Mexico State University Carlsbad is proud to host NMSU’s Fall 2009 Branch Campus Round-Up. This year’s Round-Up takes place Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26, on the Carlsbad Campus and everyone in the NMSU community is invited.

This year’s theme is “Educating Challenging Students.” Challenges of student retention, preparedness, expectations, and classroom behaviors, and are among the issues that will be explored at this year’s Round-Up.

In connection with this year’s theme, the event involves presentations from the Las Cruces campus about civility in workplace and preventing harassment, as well as presentations on the opportunities available through the Fulbright Scholarship program and an overview of the Office of Strategic Initiatives and the GRID program. Importantly, the Round-Up provides an opportunity for discipline councils comprised of chairs and faculty members from NMSU’s campuses to meet to communicate and promote alignment of academic departments throughout the university.

Participants can register at http://roundup2009.nmsu.edu. Early registrations for attending the Fall 2009 NMSU Branch Campus Round-Up will be accepted through September 21. Registration for the Round-Up is $50.00, but participants can take advantage of a discounted registration fee of $35.00 if they register on or before September 21. Participants can also register the morning of the Round-Up.

Participants interested in presenting at the Round-Up should contact Dr. Kathy Greenwood at kgreenwood@cavern.nmsu.edu (575) 234-9352 or submit a proposal by clicking the link above. Proposals for presentations should be submitted before 5:00 PM, September 11, 2009.
