Your Vote Counts!

Your vote counts!
Students of NMSU-Alamogordo have been actively involved in creating a constitution since the early part of 2008. Why is this important to you, the student?
We approved funding for magnetic cue balls, as well as funding for maintenance of various other games at the student union. By directly managing our own student funds, we have the power to improve the quality of campus life. We, the students, decide what improvements we would like to support financially and what items we would like to purchase for ourselves.
As an example, the graduating nursing students last semester were able to get funding for a beautifully matted and framed graduation photo. As a 2006 graduate of the Associate Degree nursing program, I know the funding for this item can help make a difference when planning for the pinning ceremony. However, it did take initiative of those nursing students to make it happen!
The constitution allows all students who currently attend classes through the NMSU-A campus equal, yet reasonable, access to their funds. The constitution also provides students a strong representation with the faculty. However, in order for the student body to continue to reap the benefits of having a student government through representation, the NMSU-A student body needs to vote to approve the constitution.
Step up and vote on YOUR constitution here at the NMSU-A website!

New Hybrid Comm. Class
August 12, 2008
COMM 265, Principles of Human Communication, a required class for most degrees, is now being offered as a true hybrid class this fall semester. The instructor is Wanda Wakkinen; please call her at 439-3752 or e-mail her at wandaw@nmsu.edu for more information. You can register online or in person by inserting or checking COMM 265G.A06, CRN 39299 on the proper lines.
Communication concepts and theories will be taught online, and communication skills, including public speaking, will be practiced in the classroom. This hybrid class will meet approximately half of the time face-to-face (f2f) or onsite, primarily on Thursdays, 5:30-6:45, and half online via WebCT.
Attendance in onsite classes is required (and will include some Tuesdays and most Thursdays). This will allow you to continue working, caring for children or aging parents, and make a little less of a dent in your gasoline bill.
This class will provide the interaction vital to learn communications skills effectively, allowing for practice, repetition, and reinforcement of those skills necessary to meet the class objectives while allowing you to be available for family and work and reducing your transportation and scheduling demands. Hope to see you in this new, innovative and exciting class!
It is recommended, but not required, that you have online class experience. The class is not solely an online class and just completing the online or just the onsite classes will result in failure of the class. Since the online class will “set the stage” for the onsite class activities, it will be vital to have completed the material each week before the onsite class. Because the onsite class will only meet once per week and would reinforce the material covered online, both class settings are necessary to meet the objectives of the class.
