Three New-Style Communication Classes A’Coming!

During Spring 2009, I offered a new class called Cyberspace Communication. We met in the virtual world of Second Life and, I must say, it was a great success! One student, Sharon DiLeo, put it well, “It does appear clear that the power associated with a visual representation of another person fosters a very real feeling of closeness not necessarily felt in my online classes. It is as though, we are all neophytes growing up together in Second Life and are thus less strangers to one another.”
I will be offering Cyberspace Communication again this fall (Fall, 2009) and invite those of you whom we call early adapters to come find out what the excitement is all about. Learn about communication in and how to communicate effectively in virtual worlds, social networking sites, on field trips in Second Life, etc. The class, COMM 291-20, will meet once per week on Sunday evenings from 6-8 PM. Join me for a new, innovative classroom experience!
During Fall 2008, I taught a COMM 265 Principles of Human Communication pilot class as a hybrid class. We spent half of our time online and half of the time in the classroom, practicing communication skills learned as we progressed in the class. It also was very successful. Therefore, I will do it again, twice, this coming summer (Summer, 2009) during the second 5-week session. Join me in COMM 265-A60, Monday and Wednesday from 3-5 PM, OR COMM 265-A61, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:20-12:20. Enjoy the best of both worlds. Do half of the class work at home on your computer, and, even on class days, be home for lunch or dinner!
