Office of Student Success and Retention

Welcome to the Office of Student Success and Retention! The office is located on the second floor of the Student Services Building.  Office hours are 8AM to 5PM Monday through Thursday, and 8AM to noon on Friday.

Our Mission: We are dedicated to improving the quality of the student experience for all students, from the time of the initial transition into the college community throughout the first year and beyond.

Our mission, which upholds and reaffirms what lies at the core of NMSU-A’s mission - to serve our diverse student body - is accomplished through an understanding of student needs and an ongoing effort to align our programs and services accordingly. The Office of Student Success and Retention strives to accomplish its mission through direct student support and through the facilitation of NMSU-A’s campus-wide retention planning efforts.

Direct Student Support Objectives

  • Enhance the quality of the student experience through effective transition and integration strategies
  • Increase student access to campus wide services through information and referral processes
  • Identify social, financial, and academic issues that affect or could potentially affect student attendance, performance and success
  • Assess and identify academic-related skill needs
  • Provide support in effective problem solving and success planning strategies

Students are first introduced to the program and its services during the New Student Success Orientation sessions, during which time all attending students are encouraged to take advantage of the program’s services. Students are encouraged to stop in on a walk-in basis or to access services by making an appointment. Students who are identified as having tested into one or more developmental courses are contacted by the Office and encouraged to meet with the coordinator to assess their individual needs.

Student Success and Retention Planning Objectives

  • Facilitate the campus-wide student success and retention planning process through the review of data, identification of issues, and development of recommendations for action
  • Develop NMSU-A’s Student Success and Retention Plan based on faculty, staff and student goal recommendations.
  • Provide retention related resources for faculty and staff
