Tanya Allred
Instructor of English
Background
I was born in Silver City, New Mexico, but lived in the booming metropolis of Lordsburg until I was nine. My family then moved to Silver City and laid down roots. Being a small-town girl, after graduation I chose to attend Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. The beauty of Colorado was no match for my hatred of the freezing weather. I later returned to New Mexico and earned several degrees from NMSU. I am a desert rat and feel New Mexico is the place for me!
I worked at the NASA White Sands Test Facility for a couple of years, but the hours the job required left too little time for me to spend with my young son. I abandoned the job and decided to return to teaching at the college level and worked part time at NMSU and DACC for a few years. When my son started kindergarten this year, I felt it was time for me to begin working full-time again. I was excited to get the job here as an English Instructor. I’ve only been at NMSU-A for a couple of weeks now, but I already feel at home among the faculty, staff, and students on campus.
