SCCORE 2019 News Release

Vicente Lombraña, Jr.
NMSU-Alamogordo NM AMP Institutional Coordinator

Three NMSU-Alamogordo students, Jazmin Lopez, Julian McPherson, and Trever Perkins, have been selected to participate in the 2019 Summer Community College Opportunity for Research Experience (SCCORE) program. This will be Trever Perkin’s second year participating in the program.

SCCORE, which is affiliated with the New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation (NM AMP) program, a statewide partnership of universities and colleges funded by the National Science Foundation, targets pre-transfer, community college students majoring in STEM disciplines and provides them with an opportunity to participate in ongoing STEM research by working as research assistants for faculty mentors at host universities. The three aforementioned NMSU-Alamogordo students participating in SCCORE 2019 will be hosted by NMSU-Las Cruces, where they will live on campus, attend a credit-bearing SMET 201 class, and receive professional development training. The program will run from June 3–June 28. Participating students will be presenting their research at the annual NM AMP Student Research Conference this coming October. The conference includes a poster competition for both community college students and university students.
