NMSU-A HEALTH FAIR SPONSORS AND CO-SPONSORS

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – NMSU Alamogordo and Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico along with co-sponsors Active Radio KHII, Rock 97.9 KTMN, and Your Country 105.3 will be holding a Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 8 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the Tays Center on the NMSU-A campus.

HEALTH FAIR THEME – HEALTH ROCKS

The theme of the fair is “Health Rocks”. The goal is to spotlight an activity-oriented health fair to take control in preventing chronic disease before it’s too late. NMSU-A encourages participants to come prepared (workout gear) to have fun participating in interactive activities.

The opening ceremony begins at 8:00 a.m. The first fitness event of the day is a 1.5 mile walk/run, will take place on the NMSU-A Fitness Trail located on the north side of campus.

HEALTH FAIR SCREENING AND EXHIBITORS – 8:30 AM TO 2:00 PM

Free health screenings for BMI, Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, Cholesterol Testing, Vision Screening, Dental Screening, and Spinal Screening will be provided by NMSU-A’s Allied Health Department, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico and many other local health organizations, will be available throughout the day. Exhibitions in the Tays lobby and gymnasium will showcase information and products related to nutrition, fitness, and occupational health.

HEALTH FAIR FITNESS WORKOUT SESSIONS & INFORMATION– 9:00 AM TO 1:00 PM

From 9:00 am to 1:00 pm a variety of free fitness workout sessions will take place at the Tays Center. Among the different options for participants to choose from are basic weight training information, Mixxedfit, Zumba, Qi Gong, and Cross Training Workout on the stage. The sessions will be facilitated by certified fitness instructors.

HEALTH FAIR GUEST SPEAKERS – 9:00 AM TO 11:45 PM

This year we will have two guest speakers on two important topics:

  • Nutrition by Eat Well Otero with Kelly Knight as the presenter. She will address fad dieting and how that may or may not contribute to healthy eating
    • Session I: 9:00 – 9:45 am – Rm 116 – Fad dieting & how that may or may not contribute to healthy eating
    • Session II: 10:00 – 10:45 am – Rm 116 – Fad dieting & how that may or may not contribute to healthy eating
    • Session III: 11:00-11:45 am – Rm 116 – Fad dieting & how that may or may not contribute to healthy eating
  • Dealing with Health Issues Daily with Denise Race (RN BSN, MHA) from Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center.
    • Session I: 9:00 – 9:45 am – Allergies (Types and treatments of allergies, etc.)
    • Session II: 10:00-10:45 am – Bones (Broken Bone Info, Bone Spurs, Diseases of Bones, etc.)
    • Session III: 11:00-11:45 am – Cancer (Types and treatment of cancer, Your Immune Systems, etc.)

OBSTACLE SPRINT CHALLENGE RACE – 2:00 PM TO 3:30 PM

At 2:00 pm the Obstacle Sprint Challenge Race will focus on individual’s strength and cardiovascular training. It will include three loops around the NMSU Alamogordo fitness trail while addressing obstacles (wall climbs, tire pulls, net crawls, jumping and carrying drills). The race will provide the individual with an introduction to the rapid growing OBSTACLE COURSE RACING (OCR).

CO-ED VOLLEYBALL GAME – 4:00 PM TO 5:OO PM

At 4:00 pm the health fair will close with four teams participating in coed volleyball games.
