ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – NMSU Alamogordo with corporate sponsors Active Radio KHII, The Mountain KTMN, Your Country 105.3 and Alamogordo Daily News will be holding a Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 8 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the Tays Center on the NMSU-A campus.

The theme of the fair is “The First Step: Be Healthy”. The goal is to spotlight an activity oriented health fair to take action to prevent chronic disease before it’s too late. NMSU-A encourages participants to come prepare (workout gear) to have fun with hands – on activities.

The opening ceremony, which begins at 8:00 a.m. The first fitness event of the day is a 1.5 mile walk/run, which will take place on the NMSU-A Fitness Trail is located on the north side of campus.

Free health screenings (BMI, Blood pressure, Blood Glucose, Cholesterol Testing, Vision Screening, Dental Screening, and Spinal Screening), provided by NMSU-A’s Allied Health Department, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico and many other local health organizations, will take place throughout the day. Exhibitions in the Tays lobby and gymnasium will showcase information and products related to nutrition, fitness, and occupational health.

Throughout the day a variety of free fitness workout sessions will take place at the Tays Center. Among the different options for participants to choose from are basic weight training information, Hatha Yoga, Qi Gong, and Cross Training Workout on the stage. The sessions will be facilitated by NMSU-A fitness staff and students.

This year we will have two guest speakers on two important topics: Exercise Injuries with the Alamogordo Physical Therapy and Diabetes with Dr. Andrew Lancaster M.D. Endocrinologist.

The Obstacle Sprint Challenge Race will focus on individual’s strength and cardiovascular training.
